Popcorn and Tyler

When posting stories one chapter at a time, it allows an author to reaccess how he wants the final product to be. There is that one advantage of having a book spaced out over months.

As I revised this chapter, I inserted the paragraph about Jakob popping popcorn.

Read Meeting No. 30 [Chap. 16] here.

This simple paragraph struck me. I thought to myself what are the smallest things I take for granted. I found myself somewhat moved by what Jakob would feel in that situation. He had gone months and months in a completely different setting.

Of course, Tyler is the more pressing concern. To attempt some authenticity, I know AA meetings can't be all sunshine and roses. There are ups and downs. Some of the shares are hard. I have to accept that. It's what makes accomplishments so much more meaningful. Look how far Lance has come.

  1. I will never look at microwave popcorn the same again. How profound.

  2. I really wonder if Tyler will survive his "boyfriend." What will it take for him to move out?

    Another great chapter.

  3. The latest chapter is great. I really like the popcorn paragraph. It captures Jakob's delight in something which you take for granted until you haven't got it. And I'm glad Ophelia got the new job and that it's working out well for her. Nice one!
I guess that Jakob's talents in interior design may prove to be the key to his longer-term money constraints and accommodation problems. It will be fascinating to see. How poor Tyler will get out of the hole he's in I don't know though I fear it could get worse before it gets better. Randall has a problem too and not an easy one to sort out without hurting quite a few people.

Our quartet have eventful lives: just as well, they're all great guys.
