WTF?

A new chapter of Hi, I'm Lance is sure to prompt a lot of reactions.

Read Hi, I'm Lance Meeting 22 [Chap. 14] here.

Every now and then, something unpredictable happens — to the reader that is. In this chapter, "Holy smokes!" or "What the fuck?" or "What was Jakob — and Lance — thinking?" are bound to come to mind.

There is a lot to unpack in this chapter. I'm pondering which of the two — the passage with Ophelia or the conversation with Lance and Jakob the day following — will garner the most response. If you didn't like part of this chapter, I hope you allow me the author's freedom to explore the unexpected. I've come to view this circle of AA friends to be very close-knit, and in that regard, I like how they look out for each other. You may have all sorts of different opinions — and I want to hear them — but wacky as this all is, it moves our characters forward.

"The sex" or "the talk" are the key elements, but the ending to this chapter is also leading to a new big step.

  1. Well, THAT was a surprise! Lance is such a generous person. I'd never be able to do what he did with Ophelia. I'm definitely a hard-wired homosexual. But it's really nice to see his and Jakob's relationship moving forward.

  2. You have outdone yourself weaving all those relationships together, yet keeping them sober. I was thrilled that Lance and Jakob professed their love. Sealed the deal..."Pretty Woman" reference was wonderful.

  3. Straight sex? REALLY, Timothy? Typically this would be kind of a big turnoff, but there was something tender about it; maybe because it gave Ophelia her moment? When fiction is about gay characters, those that are not could easily get lost. You handled this well in that respect. I like her. Let's just not let this be a thing, okay?

  4. Wow. I didn't see that coming. But it was hot!

  5. I LOVED this chapter. It most certainly was not a WTF chapter. I thought it was brilliant and brings even more emotion into the story of Lance and gives him a more realistic believability.

    Thank you for writing this.

    A big fan

  6. The chapters in both books have thrown a bit of a curve ball for me. Having Lance sleep with Ophelia was over the top! I am glad that there are bi-guys out there as one of them provides some hot excitement for my partner and me. However, I definitely am not one of them!

I love that Mike and Trent are moving toward living together!

  7. I am a dissenter. I do not think that the Ophelia sex event adds anything to what is otherwise a wonderful narrative. The event seems to me to be gratuitous: no connection to anything before or after. It does nothing to enrich the character of Lance. Jakob's suggestion comes out of the blue and is out of character. Nor does the event add anything to Ophelia's character or story. It's simply a fluke. The sex description is not believable and is certainly not "hot": Lance is not bisexual, he does not desire Ophelia's femaleness. Fortunately the event stands alone, outside the narrative, and it does not develop later into anything at all. The entire event can be removed from the book (I have done so) without effecting anything. Timothy, adding this event is one of your very few errors of judgement.
