Ever since Hi, I'm Lance (book three) splintered off from If It Weren't For the Two of Us (book two), the stories of Trent and Lance have progressed alongside each other. Lance's birthday dinner is one of the first times for the same event to appear in both books.
If you read the recent posting of Chapter 36 of If It Weren't For the Two of Us, you'll recall Mike and Trent come over and meet Jakob for the first time.
Now, with the next chapter of Hi, I'm Lance posted, you can read the same event but through Lance's eyes.
Read Meeting 14 [chap. 11] here.
Before these two books end, the same situation will happen a few more times. For those of you reading them simultaneously, I feel it works out best. I do wonder, however, for anyone who might pick these books up at a later date and read them on their own, will the "book jumping" be just too weird. Perhaps if they get to the third book, they will think: "Oh yeah, I remember this." I suppose it works like a flashback of sorts. It is what it is.
Even though all the characters are in this chapter, I really like it seen from Lance's perspective. He has so much to internalize here: relationships, friendships, families — there's a lot to process. I also like that all the main characters have now met each other.
Another excellent chapter in the saga of Lance. He is maturing into a wonderful, considerate and loving man. He seems so much more secure in himself than Trent does. At least, that's how he comes across to me. And it's heartwarming to see his support of Jakob these days. Bravo. The meeting of Jakob and Lance with Jakob's sister was beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words. Lance had so many roles in this chapter — I really enjoyed writing it. Even though the protagonist changes within the three books, Lance grew on me as a character. In this chapter, he is a son, a roommate, a friend and a lover. I think because he is maturing and evolving more than the other characters is why I was so drawn to developing his character. (Not that I don't have love for Trent and Mike as well.)
DeleteDamn man what an incredible chapter. You are something else.
ReplyDeleteYour knowledge is incredible and may it help readers out there who are suffering and confused.
Glad Jakob met up with his sister. His father is a controlling ass. If he were in front of me we would have quite the conversation. Why can people just not be understanding and loving?
I'm really loving Lance's story. I'm also loving the relationship developing between him and Jakob. Lance's dad is the best, and his acceptance of Jakob was so heartwarming. I think both Lance and Jakob are a big help to each other. I'm glad that Jakob's sister met with him. His father and brother are assholes, and don't deserve to have him in their lives. I'm 100% that my disgust is with Trent, not Lance. The last straw is how Trent judged Jakob when he met him. How shallow and petty. There's no redeeming qualities as far as I'm concerned. I still like Mike, but he's a sucker for staying with him. I have really grown to respect Lance, and being with Jakob makes him a better person.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your story A LOT. I'm looking forward to see how the lives of Trent and Lance develop.
ReplyDeleteI really think your story could be published in a book. It is quite inspirational and intimate.
