After numerous posts of Hi, I'm Lance, a return to If It Weren't For the Two of Us brings us back into Trent's life. Chapter 36 is now posted.
Read If It Weren't For the Two of Us, Chapter 36 here.
Quite simply, Trent's world is turned upside down. In this chapter, Trent meets Jakob and experiences the worst family drama yet. Things are happening fast for him. And they make demands on his emotions and his heart.
I am fortunate to say I have not had to deal with such betrayal. We all have issues that we have to contend with, but this was a biggie. What are your thoughts on how he handled it? Would you have handled it the same?
The chapter does not let us delve into the mind of Mike, so the reader has to assume — or guess — just how he is feeling.
As always, share your thoughts in the comments below.
Holy Ned...what a powerful chapter. And good for Trent. Well done Timothy.
ReplyDeleteGreat chapter! Loved Trent’s uncertainty with Jakob’s “average” qualities. The dad’s actions surprised me and Trent’s reaction was bold and cathartic.

I admire Trent's loyalty to and support of Mike, but I can't help feeling that his rather impulsive intervention, while entirely well-intentioned, was rather rash and runs a major risk of giving rise to unwanted and difficult consequences. In short, to blow up in both their faces. I hope not, of course! I would hate to see either couple falling apart.
ReplyDeleteBold plot stroke, having Trent's father behave so outrageously -- outrageously but quite believably given the sick way this sad man sees the world. What a horrible position Trent's mom is stuck in!
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, what resolution it must have taken Mike to say nothing about this to Trent until it was pried out of him. Ironically, the person who could best understand what Trent is going through would be poor Jakob, whom Trent is having such trouble seeing clearly, with his view clouded by his complicated feelings toward Lance.
